Clay Johnson & the Hard Promises, from Spartanburg, SC, formed in the midst of 2020 as a backing band for solo musician, Clay Johnson, before adopting a “full band, one unit” approach in the same vein as Tom Petty & the Heartbreaks and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. Thing together the classic traditions of southern folk music along with modern takes on Country/Americana, the band brings together sounds across multiple American genres with an earnest southern flavor. Self-described as, “the kind of music you put on at golden hour as you cruise through the backroads and past the fields with your windows down.”
